PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A busy weekend of play to start the home portion of the 2013 baseball season for the University of Pikeville has been trimmed down to an opening doubleheader.
The Bears were scheduled for a home opening doubleheader on Friday against Lourdes (Ohio) and another twin bill with it on Saturday. Those games have been cancelled due to this week’s weather forecast.
However, the Bears will indeed have their home opener on Friday. Originally scheduled for a Sunday doubleheader against Cincinnati-Clermont, the Bears will now play the Cougars on Friday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:30.
“Lourdes was scheduled to come in for a four-game series this weekend, and while we were looking forward to that it became obvious that playing on Saturday and Sunday would be a challenge,” said Coach Chad Gassman, second-year coach of the Bears. “We understand their position and respect that.
“We are glad that Clermont was able to adjust their schedule and come in on Friday. We need games and are looking forward to playing at home for the first time. We hope our fan-base and students will come out and support their classmates on Friday afternoon.”
The Bears are 2-4 after a pair of weekend series to start the season.
