LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- UVa-Wise senior Chelsea Cluesman is the Mid-South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly MSC honor is first of the season for Cluesman and the second of her career.
Cluesman averaged a double-double for the Cavaliers in three wins last week.
The Jonesville, Va., forward opened the week with a near perfect shooting performance as she connected on 10-for-11 from the field en route to scoring 23 points in a 70-61 win over Concord College. She added six rebounds and four assists in the win.
On Thursday, Cluesman poured in 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in UVa-Wise’s 77-40 win over University of Rio Grande.
Cluesman recorded her second double-double of the week in Saturday’s upset over No. 2-ranked Shawnee State University. She finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the 63-42 win. She fell just shy of a triple-double ending the game with seven assists.
For the week, Cluesman shot 61 percent (24-of-41) from the field while averaging 21.7 points and 11 rebounds per game. She also averaged 4.3 assists and a steal per contest.
This season, Cluesman is leading the Mid-South in scoring (20.9 points per game) and is second in rebounding (9.1). Nationally, she is third in the in scoring and 22nd in rebounding. Cluesman’s 56.2 percent field goal accuracy is fourth in the conference and 15th in the NAIA.
For her career, Cluesman ranks 11th all-time in scoring at UVa-Wise with 1,140 points, she has also grabbed 651 rebounds to this point in her career.
With the three wins, UVa-Wise improves to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-South. The Cavaliers will return to action on Tuesday when Milligan College visits the Convocation Center.
