LOUISVILLE, Kentucky. -- The University of Virginia's College at Wise's Chelsea Cluesman is the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly conference award is Cluesman's first of the season and of her career.
Cluesman averaged 24.7 points and 12.7 rebounds per game in the Cavaliers' three games last week.
The Jonesville, Va., junior forward scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting in the Cavaliers' 99-55 loss to No. 2-ranked Union (Tenn.) University last Monday. In Thursday's game against St. Catharine College, Cluesman scored 28 points while grabbing 12 rebounds in a 78-66 loss to the Patriots.
On Saturday, Cluesman recorded her conference-leading eighth double-double of the season in an 84-78 overtime loss to No. 12-ranked Campbellsville University. She recorded career-highs in points (29) -- on 10-of-13 shooting -- and rebounds (20) in the loss.
For the week, Cluesman made 63.6 percent (28-of-44) of her shots from the floor while hitting 78.3 percent (18-of-23) from the free throw line.
Cluesman ranks statistically in the top-five in six different categories. She leads the MSC in rebounding (9.8) and is fifth in scoring (17.6). Cluesman is second in the conference and seventh in the NAIA in field goal percentage, making 56.1 percent of her shots on the season.
UVa.-Wise is 2-13 overall and 0-6 in the MSC. The Cavaliers travel to West Virginia University Tech on Thursday and University of Rio Grande on Saturday.
The next women's basketball player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Jan. 16.
