Cobb headlines AFCA NAIA All-American team

WILLIAMSBURG Ky. (WYMT) - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team just recently wrapped up a memorable season with a loss in the NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) Semifinals.

The Patriots had an incredible season that saw school records shattered, numerous weekly awards won, and many victorious games on the field. The Patriots received many awards for their efforts and one man stood above the rest of the pack.

Terrance Cobb (Knoxville, TN) was just named a 2012 AFCA NAIA All-American. Not only was he chosen but he was one of two players to headline the 2012 class. Cobb is the third Patriot to be selected to the AFCA NAIA All-American team from UC, but the first since 1989. Defensive back David Carmichael was named to the team in 1987 while offensive lineman Ralph McWilliams earned the honor in 1989.

Terrance had a season to remember this year as he helped carry the load for the Patriots all season long. Cobb had 1,991 total yards rushing on 259 carries for 26 touchdowns, setting new records in the yardage category for a single season and touchdowns in a single season. His most memorable game of the season, one that put the nation on notice, was his game against Campbellsville University as he rushed for a school record 327 yards on 27 attempts with 3 touchdowns. Terrance also finished the season with a bang as he reeled off 7 straight games with over 170 yards rushing. When a critical moment occurred, when a play had to be made, Terrance often made it.

The AFCA is the American Football Coaches Association and its members are coaches from all over the country. The AFCA has selected an All-American team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best-the coaches themselves.

Terrance and the rest of the Patriots are already looking forward to next season as they are looking to be even better than their 10-2 season this year. With many of these performers coming back including Terrance, look for another memorable season from the Patriots.
