MOREHEAD, Ky. - Six Morehead State student-athletes have earned 2013 All-Pioneer Football League preseason honors from College Sports Madness.
Juniors Rees Macshara and Jordan Hendrix have landed a spot on the first team. Seniors Kalvin Harrington and Aaron Meadows have been selected to the second team. Juniors Joshua Brunner and Michael Jackson have been tabbed to the third team.
Macshara, a running back from Danville, Ky., became Morehead State's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2000. He finished the year with 173 carries for 1,013 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
Macshara, who earned First-Team All-PFL accolades last year, also caught 39 passes for 307 yards. His 1,320 all-purpose yards and 120 all-purpose yards per contest both ranked second for MSU.
Hendrix, a linebacker from Columbus, Ohio, set Morehead State's single-season record with 123 tackles in 2012. He ranked 10th in the Football Championship Subdivision with 11.2 stops per game.
Hendrix, who picked up Second-Team All-PFL honors last year, posted eight double-figure tackle performances. He posted a career-best 17 stops at Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Kentucky.
Harrington, an offensive lineman from Seville, Ohio, blocked for a unit that led the conference in several categories, including points (38.4), total yards (471.5) and passing yards (305.4) per contest.
Meadows, a defensive lineman from Salt Lick, Ky., tallied 43 total tackles to rank 10th on the team. He also paced MSU with six sacks (for 51 yards) and 12 tackles for loss (for 73 yards).
Brunner, an offensive lineman from Pittsburgh, helped Morehead State pace the league in fewest sacks per contest (1.00) and red-zone efficiency (88.4 percent).
Jackson, a defensive back from Cincinnati, posted 57 total tackles to place third on the team. He also contributed an interception, fumble recovery and forced fumble.
The Eagles open regular-season action on Thursday, Aug. 29, when Pikeville (Ky.) visits Jayne Stadium for a 7 p.m. ET contest. MSU will have seven home games in 2013.
