RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team will host Delaware State University on Wednesday at McBrayer Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Colonels are 5-0 this season and one win away from their best start in 66 years.
The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com. A live video broadcast of the contest is available on OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
Eastern’s 5-0 start is its best since 2004-05, a campaign that began with five straight wins and ended with a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The last time the program started the season with six straight wins was in 1946 when the team won 11 consecutive to open the season. The Colonels’ 5-0 start is tied for the fifth best in program history. Eastern also started with five straight wins in 1949-50 and 2004-05.
EKU’s current five game winning streak is its longest since winning five straight in January and February of 2008. The last time the Colonels won more than five in a row was a 7-game winning streak in 2007.
Eastern Kentucky has won 13 straight home non-conference games and is 36-7 under head coach Jeff Neubauer in such contests.
Delaware State will be Eastern’s second straight opponent from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and second of four MEAC teams on the Colonels’ schedule. The Hornets are 3-4 this year. DSU opened the season with three straight wins before losing its last four. Two of the three wins were against non-Division I teams.
Delaware State is shooting 41 percent from the field while its opponents are knocking down 44 percent of their shots. The Hornets have been out-rebounded by 3.4 boards per game, but have committed four fewer turnovers.
Sophomore guard Tahj Tate leads the team in scoring (13.7 ppg) and assists (2.7 apg). He is shooting 40 percent from the field but just 28 percent from three-point range.
This will be the second meeting between the two programs. Delaware State won the first meeting last season 57-43 in Dover.
