Colonels take to the road to face Tennessee-Martin on Thursday

MARTIN, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team will take to the road for a pair of games this week against Ohio Valley Conference West Division teams, beginning at Tennessee-Martin on Thursday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com. A FREE live video broadcast of the contest is available on OVCDigitalNetwork.com.

Eighth year EKU Head Coach Jeff Neubauer entered the season with the third most wins in program history. Now, with 134 victories on the Colonel bench, he needs only one more to move into a tie for second place with Rome Rankin (1935-46).

So far this season, the OVC East Division is 19-4 against the West Division. Eastern is 3-0 versus teams from the West. Four East teams are undefeated against the West.

The Colonels (16-5, 6-2 OVC) have held five of their last eight opponents to 67 points or less. Eastern lost the turnover battle just once in its first 18 games, but now has committed more turnovers than its opponent in three straight games.

Tennessee-Martin (5-16, 2-7 OVC) had lost 11 of its last 12 before beating Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Saturday. The Skyhawks are led by sophomore Myles Taylor, a 6-foot-7 250 pound forward. He leads the team in scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg). Mike Liabo, a 6-foot-6 junior guard, is second on the team with 13 points per game.

As a team, UTM averages 65 points and allows 75 per game. The Skyhawks have it 39 percent of their shots from the field and 33 percent from three-point range.

Taylor had 12 points and a career-best 14 rebounds in a 65-62 win over SIU Edwardsville. Liabo scored 16 points. UTM held SIUE to 40 percent shooting, including 30 percent from three-point range. The Skyhawks out-rebounded SIUE by seven.

Eastern leads the all-time series 24-15, but the Skyhawks have an 11-8 edge in games played in Martin. The Colonels won 86-78 in double overtime last season when the two teams met in Richmond.
