WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - The No. 1 Cumberlands Patriots will take the field in two weeks and compete for a national championship following Saturday's overtime win over No. 3 Carroll College (Mont.).
One big reason for the Patriots' success is the play of true freshman quarterback Adam Craig. The Mid-South East Offensive Freshman of the Year has accounted for more than 2,400 yards and 37 touchdowns this season, and head coach John Bland says his QB has exceeded all of his staff's expectations.
"Adam I knew was a really good player coming out of high school, but he has exceeded my expectations," says Bland, who has led Cumberlands to a perfect 13-0 record entering this season. "Ask his high school coaches and they'll say, 'Coach, he did that for us too.' I heard a lot of talk and I saw it in high school, but to do it at this level and to do it in his first year is just so impressive because of the leadership, and he's taken a lot of our offense and put it on his shoulders. Our team, we've had other players stepping up, but Adam has been a key role in this success."
