Cumberlands blows past Union, 91-62

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands opened up a huge first half lead and never looked back, on their way to a big 91-62 victory over the Union College men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in NAIA action at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

With the loss, Union fell to 10-3 overall and had a four-game winning streak snapped in the process. Cumberlands improved to 8-3 with the victory.

The host Patriots put away Union early in the contest, as Cumberlands opened the game on a 11-0 run. Union did not make their first basket until the 11-minute mark in the period and were hampered all half by poor shooting.

Eventually, Cumberlands opened an insurmountable 31-10 lead with three minutes left, then coasted in the locker room up 24-points (41-17) at the half. In all, Union shot a porous 26.1 percent from the floor in the period (6-of-23) and 1-of-9 from three point range.

The 24-point lead was just too much for Union to come back from the rest of the day, as Cumberlands coasted throughout the second half, on their way to a 29-point victory.

Overall, guard Sean Brown led Union in the loss, scoring 13 points. The Bulldogs' only other double-digit scorer on the day was Stewart Washington, who had 11 points off the bench.

Cumberlands was led in the win by R.J. Scott, who scored a game-high 22 points.
