On Sunday July 17 through Wednesday July 20, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Soccer team held their 3rd annual High School Team Camp. In all four teams with around 70 total campers arrived on the UC campus to take part in the camp activities.
The four high schools present at this year’s camp were East Carter High School (Grayson, KY), Model Laboratory High School (Richmond, KY), Morristown East High School (Morristown, TN) and Southwestern High School (Somerset, KY).
“This is our third year of hosting this camp and we continue to look to improve and welcome anyone that wishes to attend,” exclaimed Head Women’s Soccer Coach Russell Stewart. “From this year’s camp we found 8-10 potential recruits.”
During the camp teams were put through vigorous 3 a day workouts with 2 training sessions a day, the morning session was focused on technical training and the afternoon session was focused on tactical training, and games played at night.
When teams first arrived on Sunday everyone gathered to watch the Women’s World Cup final as a group and on Monday campers were treated with a trip to the water park.
“It’s a very well ran camp with some of the best coaches and staff in the area working it,” said Russell. “All the campers worked very hard and by the end of the week showed great improvement.”
The Cumberlands women’s soccer team’s season opens up on August 31st on the road at Bryan College with the game set to begin at 6:00 pm.
