ROCK HILL, SC -- After a stellar offensive performance in the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, junior infielder Danae Reed was named to the All-Tournament Team, the league office announced on Monday.
The Lady Railsplitters' season drew to a close on Saturday, as they were eliminated from the SAC Championship following a 5-1 loss to the Wingate Bulldogs. Prior to that contest, Lincoln Memorial staved off elimination by ousting the Carson-Newman Eagles from the tournament with a 9-5 win. LMU found themselves in the loser's bracket after falling short against top-seeded Tusculum on Thursday, 2-1, to open the tournament.
Danae Reed (Broadway, VA) was the catalyst offensively for the Lady Railsplitters' run in the 2013 Food Lion SAC Championship, as she led the entire tournament with a .714 batting average. All told, the junior compiled five hits in three games with seven RBI, three runs scored and three home runs.
Her best performance of the week came on Friday, as she paced the Lady Railsplitters to a 9-5 victory over arch-rival Carson-Newman with a pair of home runs. Danae topped off a six-run top of the first with a grand slam and added a two-run blast in the top of the fifth to cap her day with six RBI.
Reed was responsible for the only run in the Lady Railsplitters' 5-1 loss to Wingate on Saturday, as she pounded a solo home run in the top of the seventh.
With five hits in three games, Reed lifted her average from .297 to .313 to finish the season ranked third on the team in batting.
The Lady Railsplitters capped the 2013 campaign with a 30-22 overall mark, earning the program's first 30-win season since 2008.
