Daniels collects NAIA special teams weekly nod

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Keondrick Daniels of Union has been named the NAIA National Football Special Teams Player of the Week, the national office announced Monday.

Daniels, a wide receiver from Tallahassee, Fla., became the first player in Union football history to return a punt and kickoff for a touchdown in the same game in the Bulldog's 51-48 loss against Bethel (Tenn.). The freshman's 79-yard punt return late in the first quarter opened the high-scoring affair. Daniels second score, an 83-yard kickoff return, came early in the second quarter to give Union a 21-14 lead. For the game, Daniels averaged 40.5 yards per kickoff return and 40 yards per punt return.

On the season, Daniels' ranks fourth in the NAIA in total punt return yards (194), seventh in kickoff return yards per attempt (29.5) and ninth in punt return yards per attempt (13.9).

As a wide receiver, Daniels has caught eight passes for 67 yards with a long of 31 yards.

Daniels is the first Bulldog to be named the NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week since Jacob Appleby earned the honor on Nov. 3, 2008. He is the first NAIA football player of the week for Union since Armond Smith was the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11, 2010.

The Bulldogs are 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the Mid-South Conference East. Union will play at Kentucky Christian on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
