HARROGATE, TN -- Dustin Craig has been named the Railsplitter of the Week for the week ending on January 6th, the Lincoln Memorial University athletic department announced Monday morning.
Craig, a senior forward hailing from Knoxville, Tennessee and Bearden High School, garnered the first Railsplitter of the Week honor for the 2013 calendar year after he notched a 16-point, 10-rebound performance on Wednesday night to spark the 20th-ranked men's basketball team to a 78-75 overtime victory against Trevecca Nazarene University in Tex Turner. Despite recording only 23 minutes of action, Dustin made good on eight of his 11 shot attempts, reigned in six offensive rebounds and swiped a pair of steals.
That was Craig's second double-double of the season as he netted 16 points and 12 rebounds in the Railsplitters' first match up against Trevecca Nazarene this season (11/20/12). Craig fell two points short of matching his season-high total, which came on December 8th at Virginia-Wise.
For the season, Dustin ranks sixth on the team with 8.8 points per and sits in second in total rebounding (7.0 boards per). Craig leads the team in offensive rebounding with 29 total and field-goal percentage with a 64.4% clip this season, which ranks second in the South Atlantic Conference. He also leads LMU with 12 blocks this season and ranks seventh in the SAC in blocks per game (1.2).
Dustin Craig and the Railsplitters will be back in action on Wednesday evening, as they are set to re-engage in South Atlantic Conference play with a trip to Mars Hill College. That game tips at 8 p.m. in Mars Hill, North Carolina. On Saturday, the 'Splitters return to Tex Turner Arena to face the Anderson University Trojans for the "Pack the House" contest, which is set to be shown nationwide on the CBS Sports Network and locally throughout east Tennessee on WVLT Local 8 (Volunteer TV). That game will tip at 12 p.m. (noon) in Harrogate, Tennessee.
