MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State junior kicker Rainer Duzan and senior defensive end Jerome Raymond were both named Pioneer Football League Players of the Week.
Duzan was named Special Teams Player of the Week, and Raymond earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Duzan, a Dublin, Ohio, native, set the Morehead State career record for field goals made when he booted four through the uprights in MSU's 67-0 win over Kentucky Christian. That also tied the MSU single game record for most field goals. Duzan added seven extra points to add up to 19 points kicking, which set the MSU and PFL single game record. His 48-yard field goal at the end of the first half was a career long for him.
The opening week award for Duzan gives him six career Special Teams Player of the Week awards in his three-year career.
Raymond, from Lawrenceville, Ga., wreaked havoc in the opponent backfield as usual in the season opener. He totaled 2.5 tackles for loss, which were both sacks, and caused a fumble on one of his sacks. His efforts helped the Eagle defense force KCU into just 10 net rushing yards and 40 yards total offense. For the game, he had five total tackles. He now has a streak of at least one tackle for loss in 13 consecutive games.
Raymond won he league's Defensive Player of the Week in the first week last season as well.
Morehead State travels to Illinois State for a 7:30 p.m. EST game this Saturday.
