CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team came up two shots short of finishing first at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Colonels placed third in the 14-team event.
EKU opened play on Monday with a round of 300 and sat in second place, four shots behind leader Murray State (296). However, Jacksonville State was the big mover on Tuesday. After a first round 314 left the Gamecocks in a tie for sixth, JSU shot a tournament record 293 during the final round to move to the top.
Jacksonville State (607) was one shot better than second place Murray State (608). The Colonels total of 609 was two shots off the lead. Belmont (617) was fourth and Houston Baptist (620) was fifth.
Freshman Sofie Levin led Eastern Kentucky and tied placed sixth overall. She carded rounds of 75 and 76 for a total of 151.
Sophomore Rachel Welker tied for seventh overall. She shot a career-best round of 72 on Monday. Her final round 80 on Tuesday led to a 36-hole total of 152.
Anna Gleixner (154) tied for 12th and Becky Sharpe (156) tied for 18th. Freshman Emilie Simmons (158) finished in a tie for 25th.
The event was held at the par-72, 5,960-yard Clarksville Country Club.
The Colonels will conclude the fall portion of their 2013-14 schedule on Nov. 2-3 at the Winthrop Intercollegiate.
