BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second straight week, Eastern Kentucky University’s Jade Barber was the unanimous selection for adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday from its Brentwood, Tenn., headquarters. It is the fifth newcomer weekly award this season for the junior from Louisville, Ky.
In EKU’s two games last week, Barber averaged 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting 66.7 percent from the field.
The 6-foot-2 center recorded her second straight double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds in a victory over Longwood on Wednesday. She had 12 points and six rebounds on Saturday against Tennessee Tech.
Barber now leads the OVC in field goal percentage (62.9 percent), ranks eighth in rebounding (7.4 rpg) and 16th in scoring (11.4 ppg).
Barber is playing her first season as a Lady Colonel. She spent two seasons at Ball State University before transferring to EKU.
The Lady Colonels will begin a stretch of three straight road games on Wednesday at Tennessee State. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
