EKU women's golf among nation's leaders leaders with six All-American scholars

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team placed six student-athletes on the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) 2011-12 All-American Scholar Team. No other NCAA Division I school had more selections than EKU.

Seniors Taylor Church, Kara Fant, Linda Hogberg and Katie Wiedmar, along with junior April Emerson and freshman Nicki Henry were chosen as 2011-12 All-American Scholars.

“I am proud once again of the team's commitment to academics,” said head coach Mike Whitson. “Leading the country in this category is just one more accomplishment we can be proud of from the past year. Our academic performance continues to be a building block of our golf program and these six individuals lead the way.”

Two institutions, Ohio and Memphis, tied Eastern with six All-American Scholars each. In the Ohio Valley Conference, only two other teams had more than two players selected. Within the Commonwealth of Kentucky only the University of Louisville, with five All-American Scholars, came close to matching the Colonels.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA for selection is 3.50.
