MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State softball returns to the road for its last conference trip of the season, as the Eagles face off against Tennessee State in a three-game series this weekend. MSU and the Lady Tigers are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Eagles sit at 12-32 on the season and are 5-17 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Lady Tigers own an 11-35 mark in 2012 and have a 3-21 record in league play. TSU finished 11th in the conference standings a season ago.
Morehead State swept the Lady Tigers in 2011, coming away with three run-rule victories at University Field. The Eagles defeated TSU by scores of 9-1 in six innings, 12-4 in five innings and 11-3 in five innings.
In MSU’s last action, junior Katie Pfost notched five strikeouts, but gave up two home runs, as the Eagles dropped a close 3-1 decision to Kentucky at the UK Softball Complex on Tuesday.
Pfost (4-13) leads the Eagles with a 3.02 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 122.2 innings, followed by senior Jami Whitcomb with a 5.02 ERA and 31 strikeouts.
Junior first baseman Amber Riddle tied the Morehead State single-season homerun record with a two-run shot in the second game against Marshall on April 18th. She is tied with former Eagle Rebecca Butler, who registered 10 long balls a season ago. Riddle owns 25 four-baggers in her MSU career.
Morehead State finishes up its non-conference action next Wednesday as the Eagles travel for a doubleheader at Toledo. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
