SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Of the eight golfers with ties to the Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf team in the field for the 101st Kentucky Golf Association State Amateur Championship four made the cut and played in Thursday’s final round.
Taylor Riggs, who redshirted as a freshman this past season, finished tied for third with four others. His 54-hole total of 212 (-1) was two shots behind second place and six behind the winner. Riggs shot rounds of 68, 71 and 73 on the par-71 course.
Brian Fister, who graduated from EKU this past spring, tied for 15th overall. He shot rounds of 74, 68, 74 for a three round total of 216 (+3).
Stuart Witt tied for 44th with a three-round total of 223 (+10). Danny Bishop carded a 54-hole total of 229 (+16) and finished 65th. Both will be back on the team next season.
The three-day event was contested at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville.
After 36 holes, the cut for the final round was at 151 or better. Current team members Andrew Yeast (81-72 – 153), Garrett Hinton (75-79 – 154) and Ben Purcell (81-79 – 160) missed the cut, as did Kyle Congleton (82-79 – 161), who will join the team this fall.
