Fast start by LMU too much for UVa-Wise

Harrogate, Tenn. Tommy Meier and Tyler Hutson each extended their season opening hitting streaks to seven games but it was not enough as Lincoln Memorial pounded out 16 hits en route to a 12-5 victory on Tuesday.

The Railsplitters (2-6) struck for four first inning runs, three of which came on a three-run home run by Colin Buckner. Lincoln Memorial would add three runs over the following two innings and lever look back. Overall, five Railsplitters had multi-hit games in the home opener.

UVa-Wise (3-4) was led by Hutson who finished the game 2-5, no other Cavalier had more than one hit in the loss.

Danny Bates (0-1) suffered the loss for the Cavs while Patrick Morris (1-0) earned the win with three innings of work.

Head Coach Hank Banner’s club will return to action on Saturday when Urbana University visits Stallard Field for the 2013 home opener.
