Harrogate, Tenn. Tommy Meier and Tyler Hutson each extended their season opening hitting streaks to seven games but it was not enough as Lincoln Memorial pounded out 16 hits en route to a 12-5 victory on Tuesday.
The Railsplitters (2-6) struck for four first inning runs, three of which came on a three-run home run by Colin Buckner. Lincoln Memorial would add three runs over the following two innings and lever look back. Overall, five Railsplitters had multi-hit games in the home opener.
UVa-Wise (3-4) was led by Hutson who finished the game 2-5, no other Cavalier had more than one hit in the loss.
Danny Bates (0-1) suffered the loss for the Cavs while Patrick Morris (1-0) earned the win with three innings of work.
Head Coach Hank Banner’s club will return to action on Saturday when Urbana University visits Stallard Field for the 2013 home opener.
