Five Eagles recognized by Phil Steele's magazine

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Five Morehead State student-athletes have earned 2013 All-Pioneer Football League preseason honors from Phil Steele's College Football Preview Magazine.

Rees Macshara and Jordan Hendrix have landed a spot on the publication's first team, while Kalvin Harrington, Aaron Meadows and Michael Jackson have been tabbed to its second team.

Macshara, a junior running back from Danville, Ky., led the 2012 Eagles with 173 carries for 1,013 yards and six touchdowns. With a career-best 211 ground yards in the finale vs. Valparaiso, he became Morehead State's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2000.

Macshara, who earned First-Team All-PFL accolades last year, also caught 39 passes for 307 yards. His 1,320 all-purpose yards and 120 all-purpose yards per contest both ranked second for MSU.

Hendrix, a junior linebacker from Columbus, Ohio, set Morehead State's single-season record with 123 tackles in 2012. He ranked 10th in the Football Championship Subdivision with 11.2 stops per game.

Hendrix, who picked up Second-Team All-PFL honors last year, posted eight double-figure tackle performances. His career-best of 17 stops came at Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Kentucky.

Harrington, a senior offensive lineman from Seville, Ohio, blocked for a unit that led the conference in several categories, including points (38.4), total yards (471.5) and passing yards (305.4) per contest.

Meadows, a senior defensive lineman from Salt Lick, Ky., tallied 43 total tackles to rank 10th on the team. He also paced MSU with six sacks (for 51 yards) and 12 tackles for loss (for 73 yards).

Jackson, a junior defensive back from Cincinnati, posted 57 total tackles to place third on the squad. He also contributed an interception, fumble recovery and forced fumble.

Morehead State opens regular-season action on Thursday, Aug. 29, when Pikeville (Ky.) visits Jayne Stadium for a 7 p.m. ET contest. The Eagles will have seven home games in 2013.
