WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Football Patriots are back to their winning ways after a routing of UVA-Wise this past weekend 75-13. Head Coach John Bland and staff have the Patriots back in the hunt as one of the most talked about teams in the NAIA. The latest edition of the NAIA Top 25 poll has been released and the Patriots have worked their way back into the Top 10.
UC jumped one spot in the NAIA Top 25 poll as they moved to #10 in the country. This is the 2nd time the Patriots have found themselves in the Top 10 in the country this season. Earlier in the season, the Patriots were bumped from the top 10 after their only loss of the season to #2 Georgetown College 41-35.
Led by a season best 59 point margin of victory against Concordia (Mich.) on Oct. 20, Marian (Ind.) remained the top-ranked team for the fourth-straight time - sixth all-time. The Knights received 13 first-place votes and 314 total points and is 1-of-4 undefeated NAIA programs.
Georgetown (Ky.) garnered 302 points and picked up the final first-place vote to capture the No. 2 spot for the fourth-consecutive poll. The Tigers remained perfect with a 35-10 win at Pikeville (Ky.) last Saturday. No. 3 Missouri Valley held strong with 286 points, while No. 4 Morningside (Iowa) knocked off then-No. 14 Hastings (Neb.) (now No. 18), 53-23, en route to 283 points. No. 5 Saint Xavier (Ill.) returns to the top-five after a three week hiatus at No. 6 with 261 points.
The Patriots will host Campbellsville University on Saturday October 27th for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm. UC will then hit the road for their final game of the season on November 5th against Kentucky Christian University. The Patriots will look to make a couple of jumps in the NAIA Top 25 poll in search of a home playoff game in the first round of the NAIA National Championship playoffs.
