The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football team is looking to build upon history in 2011 as they have won four straight Mid-South Conference (MSC) Divisional Championships.
Head Coach John Bland and his staff have been working hard during the offseason to ready themselves as well as the Patriot players to pursue their 5th straight MSC Championship. The Patriots year in and year out have been ranked in the Top 25 and this year is no different as Victory Sports Network (VSN) has named the Patriots once again in their Preseason Top 25 poll.
The Patriots came into the 2011 season as the #15 ranked team in the NAIA according to VSN, the highest ranked MSC West Division team in this year’s preseason poll. Cumberland University, a MSC West Division rival, came in at #18.
MSC East Division rival Georgetown College came in at #6 in this year’s poll. All of the MSC West Division was ranked within the top #45 teams in the nation out of 85 teams. Union College (Ky) enters 2011 at #35 while Belhaven and Bethel come in at #35 and #36 respectively. Shorter enters 2011 at #41 with Faulkner rounding out the West Division at #45.
Patriot Head Football Coach John Bland commented, “We are excited about the preseason polls and where we are starting this year. We also know that the only one that matters is the one at the end of the year. That always helps in motivating the team throughout the season.”
