Football Team Set to Battle PFL Foe Drake For First Time Since 2008

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State (2-3, 1-1) continues its Pioneer Football League schedule on Saturday when Drake (4-1, 2-0) visits Jayne Stadium for a 1 p.m. ET contest.

Saturday will be Military Appreciation Day at Morehead State. Free admission to the home football game and volleyball match will be given to anyone with a military identification card.

The game will be carried live on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes WIVY-96.3 FM in Morehead, WLGC-1550 AM in Greenup and WMST-1150 AM in Mt. Sterling. Updates will also be available during and after the contest on www.MSUEagles.com.

The Eagles ended a three-game skid with a 38-14 victory last Saturday at Valparaiso. MSU’s two previous setbacks came by just a combined five points.

The Bulldogs have notched consecutive wins over Grand View, Missouri S&T, Butler and Campbell after dropping their season opener to North Dakota.

Junior quarterback Zach Lewis (140-for-214, 65.4%, 1,698 yds, 13 TD, 2 INT), senior fullback Desmond Cox (88 rush, 469 yds, 6 TD) and junior wide receiver Donte Sawyer (21 rec, 418 yds, 4 TD) have led the Morehead State offense to this point in the season.

Senior linebacker Tony Bachman paces the Eagles on defense with 44 tackles, while freshman defensive back Zachary Senvisky owns three interceptions for 46 yards.

Senior quarterback Mike Piatkowski (118-for-169, 69.8%, 1,382 yds, 9 TD, 6 INT), senior running back Patrick Cashmore (73 rush, 312 yds, 3 TD) and senior running back Nathan Paddock (26 rec, 329 yds, 3 TD) have led the Drake offense to this point in the campaign.

Sophomore linebacker Tyler Moorehead paces the Bulldogs on defense with 39 tackles, while junior defensive end Brandon Coleman owns seven sacks for 44 yards.

The two teams have not met since 2008 when Drake registered a 19-15 victory in Des Moines, Iowa. The Bulldogs own a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series.

Morehead State returns to the road next Saturday, Oct. 15, when it faces Jacksonville in a 1 p.m. ET affair. The Dolphins enter week six 3-2 overall and 2-0 in PFL play.
