KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Union baseball team earn a spot on the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Baseball Team with one making the Gold Glove Team and three more making the All-Academic Team, the league announced recently.
Tim DeVito (Glendale, Ariz.), Joe Engle (Sidney, Ohio), Chris Fern (Zephyrhills, Fla.) and Brandon Hedrick (Corbin, Ky.) all made the All-AAC Team. This marks the second time Engle received the honor and third for Hedrick.
DeVito posted a .362 average during the regular season with three home runs, three triples, eight double and 32 RBIs. He has 52 runs scored and 39 stolen bases in only 42 attempts.
Engle boosts a .400 average with nine home runs, 15 doubles and 62 RBIs - all of which leads the team. He owns a .644 slugging percentage and has scored 47 runs.
Fern leads the team with a 7-1 record to go along with a 2.55 ERA. In addition, he has five complete games, one shutout and three saves to his credit. Fern has struck out 68 batters in 70 2/3 innings pitched.
Hedrick, who made the All-AAC Team the past two years as a pitcher, earned his spot this season as a designated hitter. Hitting .383, he has two home runs, 12 doubles and 41 RBIs.
Arthur Dockery (Detroit, Mich.) made the Gold Glove Team as a second baseman. He owns a .971 fielding percentage with 95 putouts and 106 assists. He has made only six errors in 207 total chances this season.
Making the Academic All-Conference Team are Hedrick, Drew Chamberlain (Cumberland, Ky.) and Corey Nicholson (Manchester, Ky.).
Union is currently playing in the AAC Tournament in Kingsport.
