COLUMBIA, Ky. - Union quarterback Hogan Goodson has been named the Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The freshman signal-caller made his first collegiate start last week and led the Bulldogs to a 24-17 victory over host and NCAA Division II UVa-Wise.
Goodson completed 16-of-34 passes for 228 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for three yards on 15 carries and had a 10-yard touchdown run.
In the final minute of the game, Goodson engineered the game-winning drive to lift Union to its first win on the season. Starting at the UVa-Wise 38 with 50 seconds to play, Goodson moved the Bulldogs to the 25-yard line when he hit Domonique Jefferson for the game-winning score with three seconds remaining.
The other conference award winners are Avery Ford of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) for Defensive Player of the Week and Travis Nunley of Reinhardt (Ga.) for Special Teams Player of the Week.
Union (1-3 overall) returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Reinhardt at 1:30 p.m.
