HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) -- Belfry head football coach Philip Haywood is among the 51 regional finalists for USA Today’s “Best High School Football Coach” competition.
The contest started with 408 coaches and was narrowed down to 51 by fans voting.
There are eight regions made up of seven to eight coaches. Haywood is in the fourth region.
Haywood, who has won 362 games in his 38 years, has made it to six state title appearances.
The voting for the regional round concludes Friday, October 18. The eight regional winners will advance to the finals.
The winner will receive $2,000 for their athletic departments.
