Hedrick Earns Spot on CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

TOWSON, Md. - Union senior Brandon Hedrick earned a spot on the 2012 Capital One Academic All‐America® College Division Baseball Second Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The College Division is made of NAIA, junior colleges and Canadian colleges.

To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum 3.30 grade-point average and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games.

Hedrick, an athletic training major from Corbin, Ky., made the squad as a designated hitter. He finished the season with a .363 average, two home runs, 13 doubles and 42 RBIs. Hedrick completed his career with a lifetime .353 average, 55 doubles, 17 home runs and 174 RBIs in 223 games played.

In addition to batting, Hedrick shined on the mound during his Bulldog career, registering a 26-10 career mark with a 3.64 ERA as well as school records for shutouts (5) and strikeouts (283) in a career.

This marks the first time Union had a player make the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team since 2006 when Kevin Smith landed on the second team.

Union finished the season 35-21 overall and 16-8 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
