High School Basketball Preview: Belfry Pirates

BELFRY Ky. (WYMT) - Up next in our DQ Grill and Chill countdown to tip off series are the Belfry Pirates.

The Pirates will look to contend in the 15th region again this year. And they have one big force that will help them do that in forward Tony Messer . But, with a mix of talented guards on the roster as well, the Pirates could make some series noise this season.

"We feel like Tony is going to have an advantage just about every night against whomever he plays against. And. We also feel like we are pretty quick and athletics", said head coach Randy Casey.

"We think we have an advantage at all times with Tony inside and we obviously want to get him the ball. But, we think we are fast with our three guards as well", said guard Josh Robinson.

"Coach, he pushes us every day. And, he knows what we expect and expect from ourselves. And, we know what we can do", said guard Brett Charles.

"We didn't have much of a bench last year, but we have some younger guys coming up to play and stuff so. That could really be, something, we got some of our depth back, so we should alright", said forward Tony Messer.

"I think just basing our offense around Tony, you know, run and gun, pressing, doing all the little things, and I think we will be there", said guard Sean Hurley.

"We only play like 7 or 8 guys. We don't have a lot of, we only have like 5 seniors", said forward James Ford.
