High School Basketball Preview: East Ridge Lady Warriors

LICK CREEK Ky. (WYMT) - The East Ridge Lady Warriors are next in our DQ Grill and Chill countdown to tip off series.

It was just 2011 when the Lady Warriors defeated Shelby Valley in the 59th district title game. Now these girls are looking to get back to being district champs, and make a run in the 15th. And they have a solid mixture of veterans and youth to make it possible.

"It is really going to take all of us being focused", said head coach Laura Campbell. "Being on the same page, believing in our chemistry and our ability to work together as we do every day, that I think we can really make some noise."

"Our team has a lot of strengths. Mostly its getting the ball down the floor", said senior guard Teena Rowe. "We are quick, we are able to transition well. But, we've never really been blessed with height."

"Our region is tough. I mean, it always has been", said junior guard Christian Yates. "But, I think we can go up against anyone and put up a good fight. We don't back down."

"We have a lot of speed on our team. And we have a lot of heart", said junior forward Kelsie Fuller. "So, we just know each other and work good together. And I think that is going to bring us together in the end."

"Our whole team is young still, even though we have a lot of upperclassman", said senior forward Tabitha Potter. "We have to kind of encourage them and teach them as we are experiencing on our own."

"We just expect each other to go hard everyday", said senior guard Tristan Miller. And even though, the younger ones, they don't have a lot of that experience. And, may not know the same things we do, we need to be role models, teach them. Yeah, we just expect them to go as hard as we do."

The Lady Warriors began the season Monday night with a 54-29 win over Hasyi, Virginia.
