PAINTSVILLE Ky. (WYMT) - The Paintsville Tigers are the next team in our DQ Grill and Chill countdown to tip off series.
We thought the last time we would see head coach Bill Mike Runyon coaching high school basketball was back in the 2008 when he kissed the Rupp Arena floor after Paintsville's loss to Louisville Holmes in the state tournament. But we were wrong! He is back and looking to get the Tigers back to where they belong, atop the 15th region and playing for a state title.
"The thing we want to do though during the regular season and during practice, is we want to get better every day", said coach Runyon. "We want to make sure that we bring to practice every day, enough effort, enough intensity and enough enthusiasm to put us in the position to win the region. The school and the community expects us to win the region. And that is what you work for. You work to play in Rupp Arena. That is how your program is judged."
"Well definitely having everybody back. It's, the expectations are high once again", said senior guard Matt Daniels. "But I think having Coach Runyon back, the expectations are even higher. People expect more out of us from him, so the expectations are overall pretty high."
"In the preseason, you can't really expect people to set you to a high standard", said senior guard Trevor Tiller. But, I think by the end of the year, with the hard work that we are going to put in and what we are going to learn, that we can be the best team in the region."
The Paintsville Tigers are currently 1-0 on the season.
