PHELPS Ky. (WYMT) - We continue with our DQ Grill and Chill countdown to tip off with a look at the Phelps Lady Hornets.
The Lady Hornets lost 4 starters from last season and a lot of production as well. So now, Phelps is focusing on stepping up and filling the shoes of the ones who have left.
"We have a young team, but we have girls who have been there before. And, you know, played in varsity games", said head coach J.R. VanHoose. "Even though they are young, they are experienced. But we are just trying to get better. We are trying to make sure. That our young kids understand what we are trying to do. And our older ones that we have are leading the younger ones and showing them a good example."
"We all know how to work together. When I was in grade school, and they were in junior high, we only had three losses. We all know how to work together", said freshman guard Carli Dotson.
"We lost a lot of girls, but its nothing we can't fix this year. Cause I think this year we are going to work a whole lot better than we did last year", said sophomore forward Donessa Maynard.
"I just think we all get along a whole lot better. And we have come together as a family. I just think we are really dedicated, and we want to push forward and help (coach) VanHoose get a winning season", said junior guard Caitlyn Norman.
The Lady Hornets are currently 0-1 on the season.
