BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - With the high school football playoffs beginning this week, that means high school basketball is just around the corner, and so tonight we begin our DQ Grill and Chill Countdown to Tipoff previews.
We begin with the Barbourville Tigers, a 23-5 team a year ago, but victim of graduation, losing several key players. Head coach Dinky Phipps has been trying to get his team to believe that they must work hard every day, and make it a habit to give it your all each time you take the court.
"At times, we've shown real good work habits," says Phipps. "The work habits is, we have to convince our kids that the work habits have to be every day. It can't be three days a week. It can't be two days a week. The thing that's probably really gonna hurt us is playing experience. I don't know what will happen in a close situation. Will we panic? Or will we not panic?"
"Well, we got up and down the floor pretty good last year," adds senior guard Devon Mills. "We scored a lot of points in our games, and I just think we have to keep running, and pushing the ball up the floor, and running our offense the right way that it needs to be ran, and just continue to practice and get better."
"We can play with anybody if we try, and get everybody on the same page, and just work hard," says Zach Strong, a senior forward.
