PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - The next team in our DQ Grill & Chill Countdown to Tip-Off Series is the Prestonsburg Blackcats.
Under first year head coach James DeRossett, the Blackcats won the 58th district title last season, but fell in overtime to Belfry in the first round of the 15th region tournament, a loss their hoping to build on and move past this season.
"Of course, we'd like to do a little better in conference play. We would like to maybe compete better for the conference," says DeRossett. "Naturally, we want to go back and try and win the district, but I would like to see this team make a better showing in the All 'A'. I'd like to go up there at the Expo and play a little better up there. Obviously, if you're ever going to win the region and get out of here and go to Rupp, you got to be able to go up there and play well.">
"A lot of hard games. A lot of intense games. A lot of close games," adds senior forward Owen Caudill. "But I think if we play with integrity and heart, I think we should come out on top."
"We want to go back and win district obviously. Get past the first round (of the region) this year, because we had a really tough loss against Belfry, and that kind of motivates us some," says Jarin Hall, a sophomore guard.
"We just got hot late, and now that we got knocked off by Belfry in overtime was a hard loss," says senior Bryson Williams, "and now we're just trying to battle back and use that as motivation to play this year,"
"My post moves. In high school, with the bigger competition, I'll have to develop a better shot and my rebounding," adds Dalton Frasure, a freshman.
