OLD HICKORY, Tenn. -- Logan Hogge turned in a career-best finish on Tuesday to lead the Morehead State men's golf team in the 54-hole TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate. The sophomore finished with a three-round 217 to tie for fifth out of 83 golfers at the Hermitage Golf Course.
"Logan played very well in this tournament," Head Coach Dr. Rex Chaney said. "He showed why he is one of the top sophomores in the Ohio Valley Conference. Logan is playing very well as we wrap up the regular season. We're excited about the progress he's made this school year."
Morehead State posted a 54-hole score of 919 to tie for 13th out of 14 teams. The Eagles carded a 311 in the opening round, 302 in the second round and 306 over the final 18 holes.
UT Martin (285-281-304--870) won the event, while Southern Illinois (290-278-307--875), Belmont (289-292-303--884), Missouri State (295-286-304--885) and South Dakota (286-290-311--887) rounded out the top five. MSU, UTM and BU are all Ohio Valley Conference members.
Hogge managed his third top-10 performance this school year with rounds of 76, 70 and 71.
Sophomore Will Branham (73-79-79--231), sophomore Brad Newnam (78-73-80--231), freshman Connor Thiel (84-80-76--240) and sophomore Michael Fehrenbacher (84-81-84--249) also competed for the Eagles, while junior Jared Stacy (78-87-78--243) played as an individual.
"We continue to be a very young team, but I'm encouraged with what I've seen," Chaney said. "We are asking freshmen and sophomores to play like juniors and seniors, which can be difficult."
UT Martin junior Brendon Caballero claimed medalist honors with a 69-67-74--210. Three other individuals finished at or under par. The course played at a par of 72 and yardage of 7,157.
Morehead State is now idle until April 25-27 when it competes in the OVC Tournament in Muscle Shoals, Ala. The 54-hole event will be played at The Shoals with 18 holes each day.
