HAZARD Ky. (WYMT) - The #4 Hazard Bulldogs will be taking their game to Las Vegas to take part in the Las Vegas Prep Championship tournament, but they will do so without of of their best players on the floor.
Guard Josh Hollan was average 9.8 points per game but went down with an injury in the game with #1 Knott Central last week, and could miss significant playing time. But coach Al Holland Sr. feels it may bring this team closer together.
"Josh is a tough kid to replace. Not only on the floor, but his leadership skills. He is a great kid. Good kid in the classroom, and he is a leader on the team. It's a tremendous loss for us but, he's the type of kid these kids will build around and grow. We'll be fine", said Holland.
"Matt Thompson and Griffin Wells will both share the point position. And they both will do a good job for us. But, we will miss Josh. I think it will pull us together. Everybody just has to pick up a little more of the load and pack a little bit more of the load. But, I think we'll be okay. We play good competition this year so, that will toughen us up for the stretch before the district tournament."
"I mean, we can't replace a Josh Hollan, you know, he was probably the best player we had in the gym. It's hard to replace him and how much heart he has, but we have to have some of our younger kids step up, me too, step up and handle the ball, you know. Everybody just has to take one more step", said guard Matt Thompson.
