PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Quarterback Trevor Hoskins had a huge opening night on Saturday night and was rewarded for it on Monday morning.
Hoskins, Cumberland University’s Ben Miller and University of Virginia’s College at Wise’s Marcus Bratton are the Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 4, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly conference honors are the first of the season.
Hoskins threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns to earn MSC Offensive Player of the Week.
The Middlesboro, Ky., junior quarterback tossed touchdown passes of 53, 52, 27 and 15 yards in UPike’s 63-18 win over visiting Southern Virginia University.
Hoskins finished the win completing 17-of-28 passes in less than three quarters of action, leaving the game with the Bears on top 42-3.
In Pikeville’s win over Southern Virginia and the exhibition win over Point (Ga.) University, the Bears have outscored their opponents 76-9 with Hoskins on the field.
The conference player of the week honor is Hoskins’ first of the season and his second of his career. Pikeville moves to 1-0 on the season with the win.
Miller recorded 10 tackles, including two for a loss to earn MSC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Gallatin, Tenn., senior linebacker also forced and recorded a fumble in the Bulldogs 23-13 win over host Lindsey Wilson College. Miller also added a blocked extra point to help No.18-ranked Cumberland improve to 1-0 on the season.

Bratton returned a kick for a touchdown to pick up MSC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
The Roanoke, Va., junior averaged 54 yards on his two kickoff returns, including a 94-yard scoring return in the Cavaliers’ 37-29 upset win over visiting No. 20-ranked Webber International (Fla.) University.

UVa.-Wise improves to 1-0 on the season with the win.
The next MSC Player of the Week awards are scheduled to be announced on Monday, Sept. 12.
