FRANKFORT, Ky. - No. 3 Lindsey Wilson scored 52 second-half points en route to a 85-62 victory over UVa-Wise in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Mid-South Tournament at the Frankfort Convention Center on Friday. The Blue Raiders' Chris Bridges led all scorers as he scored 16 points off the bench in the win, the guard added three of his team's 12 made three-point baskets.
UVa-Wise (11-15) posted three players in double-figure scoring in the loss as Deon Boyce and Darius Smith each scored 14 while Matt Day chipped in 13 points in the season-ending defeat. Jermaine Wright scored nine points of 4-8 shooting in his final collegiate game.
Lindsey Wilson (27-4) dominated the smaller UVa-Wise squad by posting a 43-22 advantage on the glass, including a 15-4 spread on the offensive boards. Daronte' Clark finished with 14 points and 11 boards to post a double-double and Darren Ballou, Wesley Hanspard, and Miltwon Watts all finished with 10 points. The victory sends the regular-season champions to tomorrow's semi-final round when Head Coach Paul Peck's club will face the winner of Friday's second quarterfinal game between Shawnee State and Campbellsville University.
The loss marks the end of the Cavaliers run in the Mid-South Conference. Next season, UVa-Wise will compete in the newly formed Mountain East Conference.
