HARROGATE, TN -- Ian Creager has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for the Railsplitters next season, head baseball coach Jeff Sziksai announced Monday morning.
Creager is the first of a large recruiting class for the Lincoln Memorial University baseball program this spring and he brings big time college experience as he comes off of two years on the mound for Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Last season at Sinclair, the 6'3", 200 pound right-hander compiled a 6-2 mark with a 4.20 earned run average. He was top-15 nationally in the NJCAA for strikeouts with 70 in only 54.2 innings on the rubber. Over that span, Creager amassed a mere 11 walks to round out a 1.28 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) average. For his work on the mound, Creager was named to the All-Mizuno State Team.
Creager was also pursued by Mars Hill College, King College, Notre Dame College and Webber International University before ultimately choosing Lincoln Memorial University to continue his playing career. When asked why he chose LMU, Creager answered, "I felt LMU was a great fit for me and I really wanted to continue playing ball at a school south of Ohio. The coaching staff was great and I am ready to learn and continue playing at a high level of competition."
"We're very excited for Ian to be joining a great program in LMU," commented Steve Dintaman, head baseball coach at Sinclair Community College. "Ian has worked extremely hard to get this opportunity and has been a role model Student-Athlete in our program. In the winter, he won the Coach Jim Harrison Scholarship Award that was voted by his teammates, alumni and the coaching staff. He's been a mainstay in our weekend rotation this year and he'll leave the program with an Associate's Degree. We wish him the best of luck."
"Ian has had a tremendous two years at Sinclair, and is a guy that competes and really knows how to pitch," said Railsplitter coach Jeff Sziksai. "He ranks among the top pitchers in the country at the juco level in strikeouts, and we expect more of the same at LMU. We are excited about Ian's future and his impact on our pitching staff."
Creager is expected to bring college experience to the Railsplitters' rotation this season and his impact should be felt immediately on the field.
Stay tuned for further announcements in the coming weeks regarding the recruiting class for the upcoming season in Railsplitter baseball.
