WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Track & Field team had an exciting weekend as they near the end their regular season. The Patriots performed extremely well and individually had a couple of athletes earn Mid-South Conference honors.

Steven Johnson (Atlanta, GA) was the Men's Mid-South Conference (MSC) Track Athlete of the Week while Cameron Smoak (Williamsburg, KY) was named the Men’s MSC Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. This is the first weekly award for Johnson while Smoak wins the award for the third time this season.

Johnson had an overall prevailing weekend as he won the 100-meter dash sprinting to victory with a time of 10.95 seconds. He also was a part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team, representing their fast speed at 42.34 seconds. He also competed in the 200-meter dash where he took runner-up honors with a time of 22.31 seconds. With his three events, Johnson helped his team to a victory at the Centre Twilight meet scoring 18 of their 131 points.

Looking at the men’s field events, Smoak contributed to the 1st place team finish through his events by also scoring a total of 18 points. The sophomore not only won the shot put competition with a distance of nearly 46 feet (14.35m), but also took runner-up honors in the men’s javelin throw throwing 143 feet (44.71m).
