The University of Kentucky fan base is still reeling from the overtime loss on Saturday to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, but the Football Cats have since moved on and have their sights set on conference play.
After having a couple of days to absorb the heartbreaking loss to WKU, the Kentucky Wildcats talked about moving on on Monday. They'll have to do so quickly before they travel to Florida this weekend.
"Well, like I said, we came out this week in practice and we moved on from the loss to WKU," said junior running back Jonathan George. "We're gonna come out this week in practice and we're gonna attack. We're just going to do what we need to do to go down to Florida and do the right things to come out and try to get a 'W'"
"Those games weren't conference games," said defensive end Collins Ukwu. "This is really like a clean slate for us. It's basically like a new game, a new schedule. 0-0. These are the games that truly matter - the SEC conference games."
"It's easier said than done. Having a loss like that in overtime. It was real tough," said junior linebacker Avery Williamson. "I mean, I was upset after the game and yesterday and it's kind of going away today. So you just really gotta cleanse your mind the best you can and get ready for the next opponent."
"No, I'm built for this. We just talked about it. I'm built for this," said Joker Phillips. "I was 0-10-1 (in 1982). Stay together. We'll get it turned. Stay together. 6-6. 9-3 (in 1983 and '84). I've been around some head coaches that I've got a chance to watch go through this. We're fine. I'm fine."
Joker Phillips told the media today that a win at Florida wouldn't fix everything, but it would get the team headed in the right direction for SEC play.
