Joker, UK players hope to end Phillips' tenure with Wildcats on a high note

On Monday afternoon, Joker Phillips met with the media for his final news conference as Kentucky head coach. This season he hopes to go out the same way he closed out the 2011 season -- with a victory over Tennessee. Here are some quotes from Monday's news luncheon:

Joker Phillips: "It would mean a lot just to finish out for these seniors. There's a lot of history like that that we're trying to change, and this would be one of those things that would be a plus, one of the things that this class has changed if we can get it done."

Avery Williamson: "It would be huge. To send him out on a high note like that, it would be huge for us and the seniors as well. I feel like he deserves it. He gave his all even though we didn't get the results we wanted this year. I feel like him and his staff, they gave it all and put it all on the line for us to have a good season."

Tristian Johnson: "it's a lot to play for. The thing about it is, earlier i was talking, when you come back to the Commonwealth, and you talk amongst other football players, that's something that you can talk about -- that you beat Tennessee twice. So it's a lot to the season. It ain't over with. And I'm glad Coach Phillips stuck it out this season because it's something that he can still be a part of that would mean a lot to the Kentucky blue."

Raymond Sanders III: "that would be a great accomplishment for us and the coaches and the seniors. We want to send everyone out the right way and to beat those guys two years in a row would be a great accomplishment so we want to come out to work and emphasize that for those guys and show them that we love them and send them out the right way."

During Monday's news conference, Phillips wore no UK gears, saying "you've got to start to separate yourself." The separation process ends Saturday at noon at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, TN. when the Kentucky Wildcats face off against the Tennessee Volunteers.
