WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) baseball team was in a must win situation over the weekend when they took on Mid-South Conference (MSC) foe University of Pikeville. After getting wins in the first two games of the series, UC starting pitcher Jonathan Paquet (Quebec, Canada) took to the mound in game three and had his best outing of the season earning him MSC Pitcher of the Week.
In a game that UC needed for the weekend sweep, Jonathan came out sharp from the beginning to go 8 shutout innings allowing only 5 hits to pick up the win. He also struck out 10, including the side in the seventh inning.
By getting the game three win, Paquet helped the Patriots get the sweep and move into sole possession of 6th place in the MSC.
On the season, Jonathan is 2-2 overall throwing 35.2 innings with 27 strikeouts.
The Patriots are back in action on Tuesday, April 9th when they host Kentucky State University for a double header starting at 2:00 pm.
UC will then head into the weekend for their last MSC series of the season when they go on the road to take on St. Catharine College on Friday, April 12th starting at 1:00 pm. The series will resume on Saturday, April 13th starting at 12:00 pm.
