ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union senior Gabby Juarbe is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the league announce on Monday.
This marks the first time the catcher from San Juan, P.R., has received this award in his career
Juarbe helped Union to a 4-2 record last week as he hit .348 with two doubles, a home run and 12 RBIs last week. He went 2-for-3 with three walks, two runs scored and four RBIs in the 18-11 win over Cincinnati-Clermont. He recorded at least one RBI in five of the six games last week.
For the season, he is hitting .346 with five doubles four home runs and 24 RBIs. He ranks 37th in total home runs nationally, and Juarbe has thrown out 13 would-be base stealers this season.
Union is 19-12 overall and 6-6 in the AAC.
The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday when they travel to Columbia, Ky., to face Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in a nine-inning contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
