Kentucky Christian 28 UVa-Wise 7

Wise, Virginia - Visiting Kentucky Christian University limited host UVa-Wise to 122 total offensive yards en route to a 28-7 victory at Carl Smith Stadium on Saturday.

The victorious Knights were led by Graham Johnston who completed 14 of 25 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown, the quarterback also rushed for 84 yards and two scores on 15 carries.

Kentucky Christian opened the scoring when Graham Johnston hooked up with Lane Knost on a 28 yard scoring strike, Andrew Slikker was good on the point after to make the score 7-0. The drive was setup by a 71 yard kickoff return by Stanley Peterson who returned the ball to the Cavalier 29 yard line. The Knights extended the lead to 14 when Johnston scored from one yard out to cap a 13 play-74 yard drive that consumed 7:04 of clock, Slikker made his second point after of the night to make the score 14-0 in favor of the visitors.

The score would remain 14-0 until 9:54 to play in the first half when Johnston scored his second touchdown of the game on a two yard rushing score. Slikker's point after try was successful to extend the lead to 21-0. The drive spanned 71 yards on 12 plays while taking up 6:17 of clock. Kentucky Christian would extend its lead to 28, 34 seconds into the third quarter. Nathan Termuhlen scored from five yards out, following an interception by the Knights defense to setup the score. Slikker made his fourth point after try to score the 28 point.
UVa-Wise cracked the scoreboard when Marcus Bratton fielded a punt on his own 10 yard line only to race 90 yards for a touchdown. Paul Melshen made the point after attempt to cut the lead to 21 at 28-21. From that point, neither team was able to dent the scoreboard, leaving the final score 28-21 Kentucky Christian.

In the loss, Dean Hogan punted seven times, averaging 49.4 yards per punt. The senior pinned the Knights inside the 20 yard line twice while posting a long punt of 66 yards. Freshman Terrance Younger had his second consecutive strong game for the Cavalier offense as he caught four passes for 79 yards with a long of 39. Marcus Jones led UVa-Wise in tackles with six with two tackles coming behind the line of scrimmage.

With the win, Kentucky Christian improves its record to 4-3 on the season while improving to 1-1 in Mid-South East competition. The loss drops UVa-Wise to 2-6 overall with a 0-2 record in Mid-South play. UVa-Wise will return to action on Saturday when the team travels to face nationally ranked University of the Cumberlands, kickoff is set for 1:30 PM in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
