Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the Charlotte Bobcats rookie forward, has been selected as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for November.
The 19-year old out of Kentucky started all 15 games for the Cats, averaging 10.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 steals in 27.3 minutes played. He ranked second among rookies in both rebounding and blocks, fourth in steals, fifth in scoring, sixth in minutes and eighth in assists, making him the only rookie to rank in the top 10 in all six categories.
At 6-foot-7, 232 pounds, Kidd-Gilchrist was the only rookie to average one assist, steal and block as well as the only first year player with a five block game so far this year. It came against the Mavericks on November 3. A week later he racked up career highs in points (25) and rebounds (12) in the Bobcats first-ever win over Dallas becoming just second-youngest player in NBA history to record those numbers in a game and one of only seven players ever to do so prior to their 20th birthday.
From November 17-24, Kidd-Gilchrist scored in double-digits in five consecutive games and has been an integral part of the Bobcats 7-9 start where they have already surpassed the entire win total from a season ago.
