The Lady Railsplitters faced an early 2-0 hole after a two-run top half of the first for North Georgia, however, LMU responded with a four-run outburst in the bottom half of that frame and received a solid pitching performance from Amanda Snow and Kirstin Toole en route to capturing a 5-3 victory over the Saints.

According to the available records of Lincoln Memorial University softball, the Lady Railsplitters' win over the 12th-ranked team in the country set a new mark, as that was the highest ranked team an LMU softball team has defeated in the history of the program.

Amanda Snow posted the win on the mound for the Lady Railsplitters, moving to 1-0 on the season after tossing four and a third innings. Snow allowed only five hits and three runs while striking out two over that span. Kirstin Toole propelled the Lady Railsplitters to victory with two and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing only one hit and no runs en route to earning the save.

North Georgia struck first in the game after posting a two-spot in the top half of the first inning. Karlie Gillam got the rally started with a two-out double and Katherine Martin capitalized by blasting a home run in the next at-bat to catapult the Saints to a 2-0 advantage.

The Lady Railsplitters responded in the bottom of that inning, as they sparked a two-out rally of their own. Amanda Snow set the stage with a double, while Sarah Walz walked and Kirstin Toole was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With the bases chucked, Laura Taricano cleared the way with a two-out grand slam to plate all four runs and give LMU a 4-2 lead.

Lincoln Memorial threatened to add more runs in the bottom of the second following lead off singles from Jordyn Wilson and Kelly Dreier, however, a sacrifice bunt and two-straight pop outs stifled that scoring opportunity to keep LMU atop the board at 4-2. The Lady Railsplitters would add another run in the bottom of the fourth, as Sarah Walz drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 5-2.

The Saints picked up a run in the top of the fifth on Katherine May's RBI ground out, however, pitcher Kirstin Toole limited the damage to just that one run by provoking an inning ending fly out two batters later.

The Saints would briefly threaten in the top half of the seventh frame, as Kim McMillan notched a lead off single, however, the next three batters were set down in order to give the Lady Railsplitters a 5-3 win over North Georgia.

The Lady Railsplitters compiled eight hits in the game, headlined by Taricano's grand slam in the bottom of the first. Brianna Mulkey, Jordyn Wilson and Kelly Dreier each chipped in with two-for-three efforts at the plate.
