Lady Railsplitters earn a pair of SAC victories over Anderson

HARROGATE, TN -- The Lady Railsplitters took a pair of South Atlantic Conference victories over the Anderson University Trojans on Saturday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Field. Lincoln Memorial University (23-16, 5-7 SAC) scored five unanswered runs in game one, capped with a walk-off home run by Amanda Snow, en route to a 5-3 win before taking a wire-to-wire victory over Anderson (30-8, 7-5 SAC) by a margin of 8-3 in the finale.

The Lady 'Splitters return to action on Tuesday, April 2nd, as they host Mars Hill for a two-game South Atlantic Conference set at Dorothy Neely Field. Game one is scheduled to get underway at 2 pm. LMU hits the road to Union on Wednesday before closing the week at Newberry on Saturday.

The Trojans did all of their scoring in the first two innings of action in the opening game of the afternoon. Jessica Neidigh led off the game with a double to left-center field and scored two batters later thanks to a single through the right side by Danielle Swygert. In the top of the second, Anderson added two more runs, as Neidigh poked an RBI-single through the left side and Abby Child plated another run with a single into left-center field.

Trailing 3-0, the Lady Railsplitters scrounged for a run in the bottom half of the third to cut into the deficit. Kelly Dreier reach on an error by the Trojans' second baseman and she came around to score on an RBI-double by Sarah Walz.

The Lady Railsplitters came up empty in the fourth and fifth innings, however, they broke through in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to knot the game at three apiece. Laura Taricano sparked that rally with a lead-off single and Jordyn Wilson notched a pinch hit double into center field to put runners on second and third with one out. Andrea Foster came on to pinch hit in the next at-bat and she came through, tallying an RBI-ground out to plate the first run of the inning. Ashley Hanes capped the comeback with an RBI-single.

Danielle Swygert led off the top of the seventh with a single, however, the next three batters were sat down in order to send the game into the bottom of the seventh tied at three apiece. In that frame, Kelly Dreier led off with a single and Amanda Snow brought the game to a resounding close, as she pummelled a walk-off, two-run blast over the left-center field fence to propel LMU to a 5-3 win.

Kirstin Toole picked up the win for the Lady Railsplitters after tossing 3.1 innings in relief of two-hit, no-run ball. She improved to 4-3 on the season while striking out two.

LMU won despite being out-hit 11-9 in the contest. Kelly Dreir led the Lady Railsplitters with a two-for-three performance that included two runs. Amanda Snow added two RBI with her walk-off home run to lead Lincoln Memorial in that category, while Brianna Mulkey, Sarah Walz, Laura Taricano, Kirstin Toole, Jordyn Wilson and Ashley Hanes chipped in with one hit apiece.

Bailey Smith suffered the loss for the Trojans after allowing nine hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work. She falls to 14-4 on the season in the loss.

Jessica Neidigh led all players with a perfect four-for-four showing at the dish that included two runs and an RBI. Danielle Swygert and Laura Jansky added two hits apiece.

The Lady Railsplitters worked out of an early jam, as Jessica Neidigh led off with a double and Danielle Swygert walked with two outs to put a runner in scoring position for the Trojans in the top of the first. However, Samantha Smith stifled that rally by forcing Laura Jansky to fly out to keep the game scoreless.

In the bottom of the first, LMU pounded four hits to get out to a commanding 4-0 lead. Brianna Mulkey, Kelly Dreier and Amanda Snow singled in consecutive at-bats to lead off that inning, and Sarah Walz brought the first run home with a fielder's choice. Laura Taricano was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to force another run home, while Kirstin Toole and Cierra Mudd capped the scoring with a pair of RBI-singles.

The Lady Railsplitters added another run in the bottom of the second, as Brianna Mulkey, who reached safely on a one-out single, came around to score thanks to a dropped fly ball by the Trojans.

Anderson cut into LMU's lead with a run in both the third and fourth frames. A wild pitch allowed Jessica Neidigh to score in the top of the third, while Neidigh was responsible for the other run in the fourth, as she punched an RBI-single to left field to make it 5-2 in favor of the Lady Railsplitters.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Railsplitters effectively put the game away by recording three more runs. A pair of errors allowed Brianna Mulkey to reach safely and come around to score, while Amanda Snow pounded her second home run of the afternoon to score two more runs and extend LMU's lead back out to 8-2.

The Trojans combined for four hits in the final three innings of action, however, they were only able to tally one run over that span, as Jessica Neidigh popped yet another run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. Anderson would not come up with the offense necessary down the stretch, as Lincoln Memorial capped the sweep with an 8-3 win.

Freshman Samantha Smith picked up the victory for Lincoln Memorial, moving to 16-9 on the season after limiting the Trojans to seven hits and one earned run in 5.0 innings of work. Kirstin Toole tossed the final two innings for the Lady Railsplitters, surrendering only three hits and one earned run.

The Lady Railsplitters were led at the plate by the two-hit outings of Brianna Mulkey, Kelly Dreier, Amanda Snow and Cierra Mudd.

Lauren Bell fell to 16-4 on the season after giving up eight hits and five earned runs in six innings of work on the mound for the Trojans. Jessica Neidigh tallied half of the Trojans' 10 hits with another unblemished performance at the dish. The second baseman went five-for-five with two RBI and one run to lead the Anderson offensive attack.
