Lady Railsplitters chime in at No. 10 in first NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Lady Railsplitters chimed in at No.10 in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Region women's basketball poll, which was released by officials with the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon. The top eight schools in the final region poll - released at the completion of the South Atlantic Conference Championship - earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament with the No.1 spot serving as host for the regional.

Lincoln Memorial University (12-10, 11-7 SAC) is currently third in the South Atlantic Conference standings with four games remaining in the regular-season schedule. The Lady Railsplitters trail both Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate, the region's top two teams, by three games.

The Lady Railsplitters ascended to third in the league and 10th in the region by winning eight of their 10 games from January 8 to February 8. Included in that stretch, Lincoln Memorial knocked off second-ranked Wingate, 75-71, at Tex Turner Arena. Additionally, the Lady Railsplitters boast a pair of wins over Anderson, the defending SAC regular-season and tournament champions, as well as a dominant 77-63 triumph over Newberry, the coaches' preseason pick to win the SAC.

Since that win over the Newberry Wolves, the Lady Railsplitters have slowed substantially. Lincoln Memorial enters Wednesday night's contest against Brevard having lost two-straight games. One of those defeats came at the hands of Lenoir-Rhyne, who narrowly topped the Lady Railsplitters last Saturday in Hickory, 63-55. But, Lincoln Memorial experienced a mild setback on Monday with a 61-57 loss to the Tusculum Pioneers.

While the Lady Railsplitters rank near the bottom of the league in key offensive statistics (10th in points per and 12th in three-point percentage), Lincoln Memorial is third in the SAC in points per game allowed and second in opponents' field-goal percentage. The Lady Railsplitters have also been driven by strong rebounding numbers, ranking third in the league with an average of 42 boards a game. LMU's average of 14.7 offensive boards a game is second in the SAC.

Lincoln Memorial will look to boost its region resume on Wednesday night as the Brevard College Tornados arrive in Tex Turner Arena for a South Atlantic Conference draw. The Lady Railsplitters and Tornados are scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip in Harrogate, Tennessee.
