ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Union College women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the 2011 Appalachian Athletic Conference preseason poll.
The voting was done by the league's head coaches.
Tennessee Wesleyan is picked to win the conference championship, garnering 61 points, and six first place votes in the poll.
Milligan was picked to finish second with 53 points, while UC garnered 46 points to place third. The Lady Bulldogs also received a first place vote.
Last season, Tennessee Wesleyan was regular-season tri-champions along with Milligan (Tenn.) and Union (Ky.), but was the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Tennessee Wesleyan won the AAC Tournament with a 1-0 decision over Milligan in the title game to advance to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
Rounding out the rest of the field are Bryan (Tenn.) (34 points), Columbia (S.C.) (20 points), Montreat (N.C.) (19 points) and Bluefield (Va.) (15 points).
The AAC Tournament will begin on Nov. 5 with the quarterfinal round, while the semifinal and championship rounds will be held Nov. 11-12.
The Lady Bulldogs, led by first year head coach Camila Mendes, will open their 2011 campaign on Friday, Aug. 26th when they host Cumberland University at Burch/Nau Field. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
